St John of God Drug & Alcohol Withdrawal Network (DAWN) assists people to reduce or stop their substance use by providing FREE care and support at home.
The confidential service is run by clinical nurse specialists who provide at-home support in shared care with general practitioners (GPs).
DAWN also provides education and support for family members or support persons and GPs. Prior to or during the withdrawal planning, clients are referred to counselling, rehabilitation or other appropriate services.
This service also offers culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
People with an alcohol or other drug dependency residing in the Perth metropolitan area wishing to cease or reduce their substance use in their home environment.
As everyone is different, a nurse will discuss individual circumstances with each client to ensure home based withdrawal is the best option. Our service is flexible and works within the model of ‘no wrong door’; supporting patients into treatment. We will discuss other options with clients if home based withdrawal is not the safest treatment and can facilitate referral to other agencies and services that best suit their needs.
